BN LRV #6046

8 july 2010 - Nieuwpoort-an-Zee (BE), Spreeuwenberg.

SachsenTram MGT6-2B #6335

8 july 2010 - Ostenda (BE), Hendrik Serruyslaan.

BN LRV #6045

8 july 2010 - Blankenberge (BE), pl. Króla Leopolda. Centralny plac w jednym z największych kurortów na trasie. To także jedno z kilku miejsc styku Kusttramu z siecią kolejową.

BN LRV #6042

8 july 2010 - Westende Bad (BE), Parklaan.

BN LRV #6035

8 july 2010 - Knokke - Duinbergen (BE).

BN LRV #6023

8 july 2010 - Heist (BE), Elizabetlaan.

BN LRV #6005

8 july 2010 - Blankenberge (BE), Kustlaan. Czas na parę fotek z Kusttramu, czyli jednej z najdłuższych linii tramwajowych świata (68 km). Łączy ona kilkanaście miejscowości leżących na flamandzkim wybrzeżu Morza Północnego. W poszczególnych miastach przypomina typowy miejski tramwaj, często z niewydzielonym torowiskiem (aczkolwiek ciut rzadszymi niz zwykle przystankami).

TEG/AMN Drieasser #354

9 june 2009 - De Panne (BE) – depot/zajezdnia. One of the very unusual 3-axle trams which ran in Gent until the 1960s. Look at the wheels – the middle pair can turn on corners (we call this in English a ‘radial’ axle). This 6-wheel arrangement is quite rare – I have only seen it recently on some Munchen trams. They wear out the track very quickly, though, if not maintained well.

BN LRV #6102

11 june 2009 - Ostend (BE) – depot/zajezdnia. The other side of #6102. It has never been modernised like the other Coast line BN trams, so still looks very much like a Charleroi tram. There is one big difference, though – the centre section has doors on only one side, even though the tram is double-ended! Presumably the Manila metro system only had platforms on one side. Anyway, it’s not much used and is used by Ostend depot as a works car. ‘SLEEP TRAM’ is right – it just sleeps here……...

BN LRV #6102

11 june 2009 - Ostend (BE) – depot/zajednia. The Coast tramway has one very odd tram - #6102. It was built in 1982 for Charleroi, but it never reached there. Instead, BN fitted an experimental centre section to test whether these trams were suitable for the new light metro system in Manila (Philippines) – but it never went there, either. It was tested on the Coast line but TEC Charleroi eventually decided they didn’t want it, so it stayed here and now belongs to De Lijn. It’s the only double-ended tram they have.

BN LRV #6001

11 june 2009 - Ostend (BE) – Marie-Josefplein. A rear view of car 6001, which was the first production BN tram for the coast line. Like the remainder of the fleet, it was later extended with a low-floor centre section. These BN trams were almost identical to the Charleroi version, but single-ended – they now look very different. The centre sections are also slightly different from one tram to another.

Godarville Baggage Tram #10020

9 june 2009 - Knokke (BE) – depot/zajezdnia. Work is in progress to restore several trams for the Belgian coast line centenary in 2010. This is an SNCV/NMVB baggage tram – because the line served holiday areas, these specially-built trams carried passengers’ bags and other goods. It is now the only survivor of this type and was stored for many years – soon it will run again.

Braine-le-Comte bogie tram #9985

9 june 2009 - De Panne (BE) – Sint Idesbald. Look closely – this is a hotel! Someone decided to build this place as a copy of the famous ocean liner ‘Normandy’. What a crazy thing! The tram is much more serious, of course, a very nice 1930s motor car and 1950s trailer, both of which ran on this line for many years and which are now part of the de Lijn historic fleet. Several more old trams are now being renovated, ready for the 2010 centenary.

SachsenTram MGT6-1 #7266

9 june 2009 - De Haan/Coq-sur-Mer (BE) – The coast line is always very short of trams in the busy summer period, when thousands of holidaymakers arrive, so extra trams are transferred from Antwerpen and Gent each year to assist. This new tram has just arrived and is being used for driver training, ready to join the active fleet in a few days’ time. The French version of De Haan (Coq-sur-Mer) translates in English to Chicken on Sea……

BN LRV #6019

9 june 2009 - De Panne (BE) – Adinkerke. The coast line was recently extended to a new interchange with bus and rail services, very close to the French border. The bus waiting in this picture is actually a French bus, working an international service of 2km! Trains to Bruxelles also come here, making it a perfect transport solution. Tram 6019 will shortly begin the 70km run to Knokke.

Braine-le-Comte bogie tram #9985

9 june 2009 - Oostende/Ostend (BE) – Raversijde. I was pleased to get this shot of a historic tram and trailer at one of the few places where the tramway actually runs alongside the North Sea - most of the line is on reserved track, but slightly inland. The motor car is a ‘Standard’ SNCV/NMBS type of the 1930s.

BN LRV #6044

9 june 2009 - Knokke (BE) – stelplaats/zajezdnia. BN car 6044 waits at the northern terminus of Knokke for the next two-hour trip to the French border. These trams were identical to the BN cars running in Charleroi, but have now been changed out of all recognition, with a new low-floor-centre section (often slightly different from one tram to another). Next year is the line’s centenary, and many celebrations are planned, so all tram fans should go there!

BN LRV #6040

11 june 2009 - Oostende/Ostend (BE) – station/dworzec. At almost 70km long, the Kust Tram, or coast line, of de Lijn is the longest tram line in the world. Trams are heavily modified BN cars of the early 1980s and run very fast, with long distances between stops. This is a classic interurban tramway, linking a number of towns along the coast, from the French border almost to Netherlands.
